A mass element rests on a node and is used to represent mass. Mass elements are element config 1 and are displayed as a dot with the letter M written at the centroid of the element.
A spring element is an element created in a space between two nodes of a model where a spring connection is desired.
A gap element is an element created in a space between two nodes, or between a node and an element, of a model where contact may occur. Use a gap element when you want to impose a nonlinear constraint on a model; this constraint will limit the amount of movement possible during analysis.
Beamsection collectors collect and organize beamsections and are used in HyperBeam to organize 1D beam section data.

Bars are 1D elements created in a space between two or three nodes of a model where beam properties are desired.
A rod element is an element created in a space between two nodes of a model where rod properties are desired. The two nodes are related to each other based on the properties of the rod element connecting them.
