Use the Altair OptiStruct panel to execute an Altair OptiStruct run on your desktop.  It eliminates the need to export the input file, to use the Solver panel to execute the job, and to select the results file for post-processing. There is also a HyperView button in the panel that will launch a session of Altair HyperView with the results of your Altair OptiStruct run.

The exported file can contain all or only the displayed model information.

The screen output is automatically set to SCREEN, OUT.  This displays the Altair OptiStruct output to the DOS and UNIX window, respectively.

Subpanels and Inputs

There are no subpanels on the Altair OptiStruct panel. All inputs and command buttons are located on the main panel.

Panel Inputs

Input

Action

input file:

Type in the file path of the desired input file.

export options

One of the following export options should be selected before you execute an Altair OptiStruct run:

all: Export everything to the input file
displayed: Export only what is displayed to the input file
custom: Export what is selected in the Entity State browser

run options

One of the following run options should be selected when you execute an Altair OptiStruct run:

none

Solves the model as is.

optimization

Starts an optimization regardless of whether ANALYSIS or CHECK is specified in the control cards section.

analysis

Starts an analysis regardless of what is specified in the model.

check

Starts a check run regardless of what is specified in the model.

restart

Restarts an optimization run.  The input file (<filename>.fem) and a restart file (<filename>.sh) must be specified.  No model is exported.

reanalysis

Runs a reanalysis on a topology optimization. The last iteration will be reanalyzed without penalization.

If the "density threshold" given is less than the value of MINDENS (default = 0.01) used in the optimization, all elements will be assigned the densities they had during the final iteration of the optimization. As there is no penalization, stiffness will now be proportional to density.

If the "density threshold" given is greater than the value of MINDENS, those elements whose density is less than the given value will have density equal to MINDENS, all others will have a density of 1.0.

The input file (<filename>.fem) and a restart file (<filename>.sh) must be specified.  No model is exported.

memory options

The memory setting specifies the memory limit, and the decision whether or not to run an in-core or out-of-core solution depends on this setting.  The memory default can be changed by using the system setting (SYSSETTING) option OS_RAM.  You can assign a different memory limit for an individual run by entering a value for memory in Mb= or by defining the -len option in the run script.  For further details, see Running Altair OptiStruct in the Altair OptiStruct online help.

include connectors

This checkbox determines whether the output file will include predefined connectors.

options:

The option text field allows you to write any additional options to the solver.  There is also check box to include connectors in the exported input file.

Command Buttons

The following action buttons appear:

Button

Action

Save as

Choose the run location and provide the filename for the Altair OptiStruct, Altair OptiStruct input file.

OptiStruct

Automatically perform the following procedures:

Export an Altair OptiStruct input file (using the location and filename as defined in the input file: field) for the Engineering Solutions model according to the selected export option (all, displayed or custom).
Execute the solver with the specified run option (none, optimization, analysis, check, restart or reanalysis) and memory option (default or user defined upper bound).
Load the resulting .res file for post-processing in Engineering Solutions.

HyperView

launch a new session of Altair HyperView and load the resulting .mvw file from the Altair OptiStruct run. (Specifically this loads the .mvw file corresponding to the filename in the input file: field).

view .out

allows you to quickly view the .out file after a run has been submitted.
